Duino Suite

I created Duino Suite in homage to Rainer Maria Rilke’s First Duino Elegy.  Initially planned as a dozen independent drawings, the idea expanded to comprise twenty-nine drawings, each with a line or phrase from the poem, text pages in German and English translation, and a frontispiece.  I tried to stay true to the spirit of Rilke's elegy, while taking creative and interpretive liberties.  Words and images inform each other.

Premiered at the  Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, the suite has been exhibited in several venues, including Vanderbilt University Divinity School, the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, Piedmont College and Georgia College.
